The Urban Village Lifestyle

Connectivity and Culture.

F
or thousands of years, culture and sense of community have thrived along the Mediterranean. The coastal villages of Liguria, Italy, are the historic model for contemporary urban village lifestyle, where residents live indoors and outdoors; walking its streets daily, to eat in its restaurants, shops its stores and markets, to breathe the air, to enjoy local artists and to chat with neighbors.

Integrating the Arts into Our Lives

The Art District at RapalloTM uses these villages of Liguria as its inspiration for creating community within a community and a sense of place. Special emphasis will be given to the arts and culture, including live/work studios, art galleries, public venues for local artists, a substantial collection of public art as well as the Rapallo Performing Arts Theatre.

Living In The Art District

Just as the Clubhouse, Lagoon Pool, Sports Club and Arts & Learning Studio is the heart of the Club at Rapallo®, the creative lifeblood of The Art District at Rapallo TM is the 506 seat Rapallo Performing Arts Theatre, surrounded by the Piazza Centro and Amphitheatro, the Strada Nuova, the Corner Parks and the Public Art.

Night life in The Art District. In addition to national and international touring artists performing at The Rapallo Theatre, local Estero painters, sculptors and musicians will also get a chance to show their talents at The Art District. During Festival Weeks artists may submit their work to be exhibited. Likewise, local musicians and singers will be selected to perform at the Amphitheater. The corner parks and the Terrace Building courtyards will also serve as sculpture galleries.

The three-story, mixed-use terrace buildings, with restaurants, galleries and shops on the ground level and residences on the second and third floors, will create a fascinating streetscape of cafes, casual dining, art galleries, parks, a gourmet market, a winery, a bakery, a deli, a flower shop, home decor, and a health spa.

Pergola Promenade

The Pergola Promenade provides beauty and shade for residents and visitors alike - click to enlarge.

Tying it all together will be an old world pergola and promenade, covered with flowering bougainvillea and winding its way along Via Teatro (main street) through parks with art and water features, stopping from time to time in "quiet spaces" with special views.

The Art District at Rapallo TM has been designed in pedestrian scale with an emphasis on walking, sitting, chatting...pondering life. Almost a third of the public parking and 100 percent of the residential parking is under roof, eliminating the traditional shopping center "parking field" and creating more green space and sense of neighborhood. In fact, a totally new concept, stealth parking, was used in the mixed-use terrace buildings to maximize "invisible" parking under roof and acoustic buffer.
